YOUR BEST INVESTMENT IS IN YOUR SOIL

It is the organic gardeners of the world who have learned to work with nature who will grow healthy plants. Everything that grows comes from the soil. The food we eat or the food our livestock eats comes from the soil. If we convert our land to a healthy organic soil, we can grow our own vegetables, herbs and fruits. I believe that no one in this world should go hungry and I believe that we all need to follow Nature’s approach. We have a system that has been laid out for us and if we learn, follow and enhance Nature’s ways we will become great growers. We need to stop fighting the organic system for Nature has laid out a plan for us to follow. We have to stop supporting chemical programs which are killing the organic life in our soil and end up polluting it.
Even when there is little money Nature provides us with a wide array of organic products which we can compost and make into an inexpensive, productive soil. The worst possible soil can become the best possible soil. We need to learn how to improve our soil by putting Nature back into it. Gardeners are continuously bombarded with television, radio and internet ads that tout the advantages of using chemical fertilizers.
Common examples are Miracle Grow, and similar types, Osmocote with its slow release formulas, the old inorganic 5-10 -5 vegetable garden fertilizers, the Scott and related lawn fertilizers and the lists go on. These products can stimulate some spectacular green up, flowering and growth patterns among plants. But we need to look at what harm we are creating to our soils by using these stimulating products. We are killing the microbes in our soil and killing the food web and fighting Nature’s way of sustaining our plantings. We can continue to stimulate our plants by continuing to pour on these products; but in the end we are ruining the very system that Nature has provided for us.
As we weaken our plants we encourage insect and disease invasion. If we follow an organic program, we build rich organic soil that will provide us with beautiful plants but and sustainable soil that will continue to support a deep root system. The secrete of any plant’s longevity is in its root system. It all goes back to developing a great sustainable soil. It all goes back to educating yourself and understanding the workings of Nature. It all goes back to healthy living and keeping the chemicals out of your soil. Their presence has been linked with many medical problems that affect you, your children and your pets.
The chemical companies get richer. They can keep pouring more money into their ads luring you to their way and our country gets sicker. The organic way which is Nature’s way is the right way. Nature has set up a system for us to follow. We need to make an effort to build our soils and put natural ingredients back into our soils. One of the best ways of doing this is to follow an intensive compost program. Never throw anything organic away. Compost it and return it to your soil. Great compost not only adds great organic matter to your soils but can allow you to brew compost tea. This than can add millions of beneficial microbes to your soil which will help you build a healthy food web which will result in sustainability. Read the chapter in my Book ’12 Steps To Natural Gardening ‘on page 79 on Composting. It is a short chapter that will give you all that you will need to know to create great compost in your own back yard. Many people have followed my formulas in my book and have raved at the high production of food they have achieved. Many have followed my formulas and have produced the best turf in their neighborhood or have created the most beautiful oasis of flowers in their back yard. If we develop a great soil, we can grow anything in difficult times.
A good soil is a good investment so be diligent in following a natural approach to gardening. Once again at Sprainbrook I think we have produced the best crop of annuals and vegetables in the County by growing them organically. Follow through by doing the same in your own garden.
I keep coming back to the importance of owning my book ’12 Steps To Natural Gardening’. I have written down all the information and all the formulas and all the methods you need to employ to become a master organic gardener. Good gardening means growing great plants. The challenges can be great but the rewards are even greater. Nature and experience are great teachers. A green thumb is a thumb of knowledge and of experience. We all need to start somewhere and we need to continue to build on that knowledge and experience. Our earth and our health depend on it.
We are an innovative clever nation and we can create the change needed once we understand the enormity of our actions and we work together to make the proper changes. My book is there to provide you the knowledge on many subjects. Each of the 32 chapters attacks another important subject and in a concise fashion gives you the information you need to move forward with your gardening project. You are the project manager, you have the creative mind and your hard work will provide amazing results. Once you partner with Nature you will be amazed at the results. You will live on clean soil in a healthy yard and by going organic you will help reduce carbon pollution of our air.
In the end it all comes down to the fact that we need to start with developing healthy organic soil. I think it is important that we all learn to grow some food on our own property that we learn Nature’s ways and that we promote healthy living for us and for our planet.
What is beautiful about a flower garden is that we combine a large mixture of different flowers in a combination that provides breathtaking beauty and fills our hearts with an uplifting experience. Each of the plants lives in perfect harmony with each other and each make a contribution to the overall effect. We are a country filled with a lot of different people and each contributes to the beauty that is America. All we need to do is look to Nature and she will show us the way. Go organic it will change the way you look at life.
